$SASHA Peaks at $49M as Alleged Satoshi Identity Reveal Fuels Solana Memecoin Meta

Solana memecoins surge ahead of a documentary release promising to unveil the Bitcoin founder’s identity.

October 7, 2024 by Finn Miller

Slated to air on October 8th, HBO’s new documentary ‘Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery’ promises to reveal the true identity of Bitcoin’s enigmatic founder.

Never far from trending news, Solana’s tumultuous memecoin markets wasted no time spitting up speculative coins. Inspired by the Bitcoin creator’s possible identities and pets, Several Solana-based memecoins achieved multi-million dollar market capitalizations as traders clamored to ‘buy-the-rumor’.

Is there any weight to the rumors around HBO’s claims?

HBO Documentary Ready to Bare All

In the ‘Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery’ teaser, filmmaker Cullen Hoback continues the decades-long cyber manhunt to uncover the identity of Satoshi Nakamoto. Hoback appears to dive into the background of several supposed Satoshis, including Nick Szabo and Hal Finney.

Despite Hoback following multiple trails, the crypto community largely believes that the HBO documentary will reveal the Bitcoin founder as Len Sassaman.

Odds are skewed heavily in favor of the mysterious cryptographer, with PolyMarket suggesting a 39.5% chance of the documentary pointing the finger at Sassaman.

However, online commentators have already found a few holes in the theory.

Who is Len Sassaman?

The newest figure to enter the growing list of potential Satoshi identities, Len Sassaman was a cryptography and privacy advocate with some curious ties to Bitcoin history.

Sassaman was a prominent member of the Cypherpunks, a group of cryptography advocates founded by John Gilmore in the 90s. Other members include alternative possible-Satoshis like Szabo and Finney.

When Sassaman tragically took his own life at the age of 31, an ASCII art obituary was hardcoded into the Bitcoin blockchain forever.

One of Satoshi’s last known communications to Mike Hearn, a key Bitcoin figure, was sent in April 2011, a few months before Sassaman’s passing. In the email, Satoshi shared “I’ve moved on to other things”, suggesting that the creator was leaving Bitcoin behind.

However, counter-evidence has emerged to debunk this theory. Sassoman’s wife, Meredith Patterson argues “Len was not Satoshi”.

Additionally, in 2014, Satoshi Nakamoto’s P2P Foundation forum account dispelled claims that the founder’s true identity was Dorian Nakamoto, a physicist and computer engineer.

$SASHA, $LEN Soar in Lead Up to Reveal

Amidst the excitement on social media, memecoin traders took to the Solana blockchain to speculate on the HBO documentary’s verdict.

Amongst dozens of launches, two Solana-based coins have established themselves as the leaders of this new meta. $SASHA, a memecoin inspired by Len Sassaman’s cat, spiked to a market capitalization of $49M within hours of launch. In the following days, $SASHA has consolidated and currently trades at a valuation of $13M, based on Dexscreener data.

Meanwhile, $LEN, named after the cryptographer himself, has enjoyed more sustainable price discovery. Launched on October 6th, $LEN avoided a dramatic initial spike in volume and has steadily ground its way up to sit at a 3.6M market valuation.
